Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) founded by Gary Craig was developed in the early 1990s. He has built on a large number of methods and discoveries from various disciplines, such as kinesiology, osteopathy, chiropractic and physiotherapy. The method and ultimate goal of EFT is to neutralize the emotional charge of traumatic events and memories by decoupling the stress response. The emotional charge is thus converted into a reaction that has little or no emotion, but generates a neutral or even positive memory/attitude.
In this treatment technique, the relaxation response is stimulated by gently tapping on a number of acupressure points. When concentrating simultaneously on a stressful or traumatic experience, the stress response will extinguish. At the end of the treatment, the trauma has therefore been transformed into a neutral memory that elicits little or no emotional reactions. In fact, the stress link in the memory of a traumatic experience is addressed and the EFT method proves to be particularly successful and effective in practice. This way you effectively tackle stress and the stress-related complaints.

Summary: This study looked at whether Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) can help new postpartum mothers feel less stressed, depressed, and anxious. 11 women who were experiencing these feelings attended 8 group sessions where they learned EFT techniques. After the sessions, the women reported feeling significantly better, with reduced stress, depression, and anxiety. While the results are promising, more research is needed to confirm whether EFT is truly helpful for new mothers with these feelings.
